ISLAMABAD: Lieutenant General (retd) Amjad Shoaib has been arrested by Islamabad Police early Monday for inciting the public against state institutions and his three-day physical remand has been approved by a local court.
As per details, officials from Ramna police station detained the former army officer from his residence early morning in Islamabad.
The military officer was presented before the court and the police sought a seven-day remand. The lawyers argued in the court that the the sections inserted in the FIR do not apply to Amjad Shoaib and reuqested the court to discharge the case.
Sources in the know have said that FIR was launched against the officer last night under sections 153A and 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code after his televised interview.
The FIR maintained that Lt Gen Amjad Shoaib incited the public against the state institution during the interview. It is also said that the former army officer tried to provoke disharmony, anarchy and the law and order situation in the country through his controversial statements made on a TV show.
It was further stated in the case that an attempt was made to spread enmity, incitement and hatred between the government and the opposition, a conspiracy was made to weaken the country by creating an atmosphere of hatred and enmity among the three classes, the government, the opposition and civil servants.
The former military officer will be presented before the court today and the police will seek his physical remand.
