Murad Saeed has written a letter to the UN.
PTI leader Murad Saeed has written a letter to the United Nations to set an international commission of inquiry into the assassination of renowned journalist Arshad Sharif, who was killed in Kenya in October last year.
In a video statement, Murad Saeed said the four months have passed since the martyrdom of Arshad Sharif and the subsequent events have raised concerns that the government is not serious in providing justice over the murder of the journalist.
He said a campaign had been initiated to write letters to the court to conduct an inquiry and eventually the Supreme Court of Pakistan took suo moto notice of Arshad Sharif’s murder.
He said an initial fact-finding committee was set up and a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was formed to probe the matter. He said many witnesses, including himself, appeared before the JIT to record their statements.
However, he said the apex court judges have shown disappointment over the performance of the JIT who have made the excuse that they could not find evidence and the Kenyan government did not cooperate with them.

He said the Chief Justice of Pakistan also said the United Nations should be approached over the matter. Therefore, he said a letter will be written to the UN to conduct an international inquiry on the killing of Arshad Sharif.
He said the letter will be sent to UN Secretary-General, International Parliamentary Union, and global human rights organization urging them to set an international commission of inquiry to expose the motives behind the killing of Arshad Sharif and seek cooperation of the Kenyan government.
He said the letter will be sent to all parliamentarians, including Senators and MNAs, and those signed will be sent to the UN. He urged the media, journalist bodies, and civil society to also sign the letter. He added that another letter will be shared with Overseas Pakistan to seek action.
He said they will appeal to the United Nations to establish an independent commission of inquiry into this gruesome murder of Arshad Sharif.
