ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate the 100 MW Iran-Gwadar power transmission project during his visit to Balochistan next week.

This was stated by Chief Secretary Balochistan Abdul Aziz Aqeeli while addressing a meeting to review the ongoing uplift projects in Gwadar.

The chief secretary said after unveiling of the project by the prime minister, electricity supply to Gwadar from Iran will be formally started.

He said during his visit, the Prime Minister will also open the project of first cross-stuffing facility at Gwadar port and distribute boat engine checks among deserving fishermen of Gwadar.

On February 21, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had directed the authorities concerned to take timely and effective measures to improve the power transmission and load management systems ahead of the summer season.

The prime minister, chairing a review meeting to discuss power transmission and load management, had asked the relevant departments to formulate a concrete and comprehensive plan before the onset of summer.

He had instructed to ensure early finalization of the strategy for better power transmission and load management ahead of summer.

Calling for minimum load shedding during Holy Ramzan, the prime minister said it was pleasing that the proportion of alternate energy and local fuels was increasing for power generation, reducing dependence on imported fuels and ultimately the import bill.
