KARACHI: At least one person was injured as activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) clashed on Sunday outside the Karachi Press Club.
A large number of PTI workers arrived at the Karachi Press Club to hold a rally in connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day. They were led by PTI Karachi President Bilal Ghaffar, Raja Azhar, Saifur Rehman, Attaullah and Aftab Jehangir.
As the PTI workers reached, TLP workers were already presented holding their own rally. This led to an ensuing clash between the two parties as TLP activists shoved PTI workers away. A PTI activist also suffered minor injuries in the clash.
PTI leader Bilal Ghaffar blamed police for failing to control the situation. He said the TLP activists attacked their sound system perched on a truck and attacked their peaceful workers. He said the police were responsible for maintaining peace.
The situation turned intense after the confrontation and PTI activists left the area and a contingent of the police force was deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
SSP South Asad Raza said police has been deployed in the area but no one has been detained. He said the situation is under control and crackdown will be launched if necessary.
After the incident, a large number of PTI and TLP workers gathered at the Artillery Maidan police station, demanding to lodge cases against the incident. Both parties eventually decided to resolve the matter amicably and not file any case.
Police said the request given by PTI has been withdrawn after talks between PTI leader Raja Azhar and TLP leaders. Police said the leaders of the parties have stopped police from taking legal action.
Bilal Ghaffar said they don’t want the peace of the city to be disturbed and have settled the matter. TLP MPA Mufti Qasim Fakhri said all matters have been resolved.
