KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has retained four union council seats in Karachi, while the Jammat-e-Islami lost one seat during voting recount.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued the decision and maintained the victory of the PTI in four union councils in the city.

The commission rejected the plea filed by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) against the PTI’s victory. The PTI was represented by Advocate Hasnain Ali Chauhan before an committee formed to rectify election anomalies.

In UC-14 Manghopir Town, PTI’s Habib Swati was elected as Chairman and Muneem Khan as Vice Chairman. In UC-5 Mominabad, Amjad Sherpao was elected Chairman and Malik Arif was elected as Vice Chairman.

In UC-1 Kemari Town, PTI’s Abdul Meeed won the chairman seat while Dr Kabir won the Chairman’s seat in UC-7 Mominabad.

Meanwhile, the Jamaat-e-Islami has lost the union council seat in UC-6 Safoora Town in District East.

The recounting was held in Safoora Town area of Gulistan-e-Jauhar and the victory was handed over to the PPP.

The PPP won U-6 Safoora Town by 254 votes. PPP’s Ahmed Khan was elected as Chairman and Abdul Haq was elected as Vice-Chairman.

The union council was earlier won by Jamaat-e-Islami during the Local Government  elections. The election commission had withheld the result.

Earlier, the ECP constituted an inquiry committee to heard complaint against regularities in LG polls in Karachi.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja had vowed to rectify the anomalies in results and assured to take action against those responsible for committing irregularities.

The PPP emerged as the single largest party after the local government elections in Karachi held on in January 15 followed by the Jamaa-e-Islami.
