KARACHI: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) handed over the two activists of the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for their involvement in the Karachi Police Office attack.
Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Police produced two TTP activists in court for facilitating the attack on the office of the Karachi police chief last month.
The court handed over the accused Abdul Aziz alias Muhammad Ali and Mehran to the police on physical remand till March 21. The court ordered to present the accused in the court on March 22 along with the progress report
Police said terrorists attacked the police in the KPO office on February 17. Police added that a terrorist blew himself up on the third floor, while two others were killed in retaliatory action Police said five people including Rangers and Police personnel were martyred in the attack
Earlier, CTD said the mastermind behind the terror attack and his accomplice were killed in an encounter with police. The CTD acted on a tip-off near the Northern Bypass in Manghopir and killed Iriadullah.
CTD officials said that in an exchange of fire, two terrorists, including Iriadullah and his accomplice were killed while two others were arrested.
CTD said Iriadullah was a commander of the TTP Karachi, while the second terrorist killed was identified as Abdul Waheed.
Last month, three terrorists entered the building of the KPO. Police commandos and paramilitary personnel launched an operation and cleared the building after several hours.
The three terrorists were killed in the operation while five others including two policemen and Rangers sub-inspector embraced martyrdom. At least 17 other people, including police and Rangers personnel, were also injured in the terror attack.
A case was later registered against the TTP at CTD police station. Police arrested several suspects for allegedly facilitating the attack.
