NEECA starts creating awareness on energy conservation
The government has been pursuing a national strategy for energy efficiency and conservation to save 140 billion rupees annually and ensure sustainable economic growth of the country.
The National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) has initiated a national campaign to create awareness among masses on energy conservation.
Religious leaders, youth, students and teachers have been urged to play their role for convincing people to adopt efficient tools and methods to save energy.
In Pakistan, over 67 per cent of the domestic electricity is consumed by fans and lighting that are inefficient and do not comply with modern energy efficiency standards.
On February 12, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had directed the speedy completion of solar and wind energy projects.
While chairing a meeting on renewable energy here, he had said it was a priority of the government to encourage the production of electricity through solar and wind energy sources.
The renewable sources would produce low-cost and environment-friendly electricity, he had added.
The prime minister had pointed out that the last government did not complete the solar and wind energy projects started by the previous government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
The 220 million people of Pakistan had suffered due to the criminal negligence and incompetency of the last government, he had blamed.
