ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Friday appointed Malik Abdul Wali Kakar as the governor of Balochistan.
The president made the appointment on the advice of the prime minister in accordance with Articles 48(1) and 101 of the Constitution.
The president appointed him after the federal government decided to make Kakar governor. The prime minister had sent a summary to the president in this regard. The Balochistan National Party (BNP) had protested with the federal government for not giving it the post of governor.
The sources said it had been 10 months since the post of governor was vacant in Balochistan. A decision was taken earlier also to make BNP leader Abdul Wali Kakar governor. The Jamiat Ulema e Islam-F and Balochistan Awami Party had also expressed desire for the governor’s office.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has sent a letter to President Dr Arif Alvi regarding the date of the election in Punjab.
The election commission has suggested the first week of May for polls in Punjab and also proposed dates from April 30 to May 7.
It should be noted that an important meeting regarding the date of elections was held in Punjab under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner during which important issues were discussed.
After the meeting, the Election Commission wrote a letter to the President and told that the President will announce the final date of the election in Punjab.
