Punjab Elections: Filing of nomination papers begins today
LAHORE: Filing of nomination papers has begun on Sunday in Punjab. Candidates for Punjab Assembly election can file their nomination papers with the Returning Officers from till Tuesday next.
The names of nominated candidates will be published on March 15 while the scrutiny process of nomination papers will continue till March 22. The appeals can be filed against the rejection or acceptance of nominations papers till March 27.
The Appellate Tribunal will decide the appeals till April 3. The revised list of candidates will be published on April 4. Candidates may withdraw their papers on April 5 while a revised list of candidates will be published on the same day. Election symbols will be allotted to the contesting candidates on April 6 while polling will be held on April 30.
On March 11, the Election Commission of Pakistan had notified officials to ensure a smooth and fair election of the Punjab Assembly.
According to an ECP news release, they included 36 District Returning Officers, 297 Returning Officers, and 294 Assistant Returning Officers.
The election officials, who have been selected from the bureaucracy, would be responsible for overseeing the elections in their respective districts and ensuring that the voting process is conducted in a transparent and unbiased manner.
They would also be responsible for counting the votes and announcing the results.
