WASHINGTON: US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price Thursday said the United States supported constructive dialogue between India and Pakistan.

“We support diplomacy between India and Pakistan to resolve, again, another set of longstanding disputes. We are a partner. We are willing to support that process in any way that they deem appropriate, but ultimately these are decisions that India and Pakistan themselves are going to have to make,” Ned Price said in his weekly briefing.

On arbitration between India and Pakistan, he said those were decisions for the countries themselves. If they agreed on a particular role for the United States, the US was prepared to, as a partner to both countries, supported that process in any way that it responsibly could, he maintained.

Ned Price said: “But ultimately, it is not for the United States to determine the modalities or the way in which India and Pakistan engage one another. What we support is constructive dialogue, meaningful diplomacy between India and Pakistan in the first instance to resolve longstanding conflicts.”

On February 23, Ned Price had said that US was a leading investor in Pakistan for the past two decades, and in the past year its investments had increased by some 50 percent.

Ned Price had said this during his press briefing in response to a question posed by a Pakistani reporter.

“U.S. investment in Pakistan is the highest it’s been in over a decade, and U.S. corporations have announced more than $1.5 billion in investment plans in Pakistan since 2019. U.S. companies and their local affiliates, moreover, are among Pakistan’s largest employers, with roughly 80 U.S. companies directly employing more than 120,000 Pakistanis,” he had said.

He had said Trade and Investment Framework Agreement Council ministerial meeting hosted by the U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Tai was underway.
