Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar has made the decision to remove Muhammad Tahir, a Texas-based Pakistani-American businessman, from his position as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM).

The decision was based on various reports and media coverage indicating that Tahir Javed had concealed a previous conviction for theft and failed to declare it.

It was also noted that Tahir Javed had initially supported Imran Khan and contributed financially before turning against him.

Tahir Javed, who had been appointed as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Investment, had been granted privileges similar to those of a state minister upon his appointment.

However, after the revelations about his concealed conviction and his shifting political stance, the decision was taken to remove him from this role.

Tahir Javed, 57, had moved to the United States from Pakistan with limited resources and gradually established a successful business. His past includes a conviction for felony theft in Texas, for which he served a portion of his sentence.

Furthermore, in July 2017, Tahir Javed received a warning from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding his online tobacco-related products business, Royal Smoke LL. The warning cited violations related to the sale of products to minors and issues with labeling and advertising.

Tahir Javed has identified himself as a Pakistani American entrepreneur, investor, philanthropist, and business magnate on his social media profiles.

While Tahir Javed had previously campaigned for Imran Khan and the PTI while they were in power, he had become a vocal critic of Imran Khan in recent months.

He accused Imran Khan of being an ineffective Prime Minister and expressed disappointment in his leadership.

Despite Tahir Javed’s initial support and assistance during Imran Khan’s visit to the United States in 2019, he eventually concluded that Imran Khan lacked substance, a clear plan, and vision for Pakistan.

During his time in the United States, Tahir Javed had played a role in setting up the Pakistan Congress Foundation and the Congressional Pakistan Caucus at the 116th Congress, earning praise from Imran Khan.

However, his criticism of Imran Khan’s leadership and his shifting political stance ultimately led to his removal from the position of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister.
