190-million-pound Al-Qadir Trust case: Court rules PTI chief will be grilled in jail
ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir has rejected the NAB’s request and ordered the investigation of Chairman PTI Imran Khan in jail in 190-million-pound Al-Qadir Trust case.
Earlier on Tuesday, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) sought the 10-day physical remand of the PTI chief in the case. The Accountability Court judge completed the hearing on NAB’s request and reserved the decision.
Later, the court ruled that the PTI Chairman would remain in jail on judicial remand in the case and probe could be carried out in Adiala Jail.
Arguing before the court, the NAB prosecutor sought a 10-day physical remand. However, the chairman PTI’s lawyer opposed it and requested for judicial remand.
On Monday (Nov 13, 2023), the Islamabad accountability court issued arrest warrants for PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana and 190-million-pound Al-Qadir Trust cases.
Moreover, the court has directed the jail superintendent to undertake necessary legal measures to ensure compliance with the warrant.
In response to the arrest warrant for the PTI chief filed by the NAB, the prosecutor clarified that the high court took no action to suspend or issue a standing order in the case.
The prosecutor further requested the issuance of warrants and directed the jail superintendent to take appropriate action.
The NAB has also called for the immediate arrest of the former prime minister. It is expected that the warrants will be executed within the confines of the jail today. Imran Khan will be provided with a copy of the warrant along with a briefing on the reasons for his arrest.
Furthermore, the NAB presented an 11-question questionnaire to Bushra Bibi in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case.
During her visit to the NAB office, Bushra Bibi faced inquiries regarding Farah Gogi.
The questionnaire posed to her encompassed various aspects, including her relationship with Farah Gogi, the motives behind establishing Al-Qadir Trust, whether she pursued any courses in jurisprudence or pedagogy, whether she continued to receive benefits from Al-Qadir Trust as a teacher, her satisfaction with Farah Gogi’s financial matters, and whether Malik Riaz himself expressed interest in Al-Qadir Trust or if she initiated contact with him.
The former first lady responded to the NAB Rawalpindi office’s summons in connection with the 190-million-pound case.
