Karachi’s Red Bus Service unveiled routes, fares, and timing
Karachi, the Sindh government has revealed the long-awaited “Peoples Bus Service.” This fresh addition to Karachi’s transit network is crafted to provide efficient and accessible commuting alternatives for the city’s residents.
The Peoples Bus Service introduces crimson, air-conditioned buses with a seating capacity of approximately 40 passengers, featuring designated areas for women. Furthermore, the standing room accommodates an additional 40 commuters. Most routes have a standard fare of PKR 50, except for Route 9, where the charge is PKR 100 after Malir Halt.
The Peoples Bus Service encompasses eight routes, connecting residential areas to crucial industrial and business centers. In its initial phase, 250 buses are in operation on seven routes, each with its own distinctive highlights:
Operating from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., the buses maintain a headway of approximately 15 minutes during peak hours and 30 minutes during off-peak hours, ensuring dependable and timely service.
For a smooth commute, acquaint yourself with the comprehensive route descriptions for each operational route, detailing key terminals and significant stops.
In a forward-thinking move, the Peoples Bus Service has introduced electric buses (EV-1, EV-2, and EV-3) servicing specific routes, contributing to a more sustainable and eco-friendly public transportation system.
Travelers can easily board public buses at their nearest stops without pre-booking. Tickets are obtainable from the bus conductor, and the average wait time at stops is approximately 10-15 minutes, ensuring a trouble-free experience.
The Red Bus Service Karachi operates daily, including weekends and public holidays, with a consistent service. Despite potential disruptions in extreme weather conditions, the service operates even in rainy weather.
Passengers have the option to transfer between routes to reach their destination, with separate tickets required for each ride. In August 2023, the service broadened its coverage by introducing two new routes (R12 and EV-3), further enriching Karachi’s transportation landscape.
