PTI leader Marwat arrested from Lahore under 3MPO
LAHORE: Senior Vice President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sher Afzal Marwat was on Thursday arrested outside the Lahore High Court (LHC).
Marwat was apprehended by a significant police contingent as he exited the high court premises after participating in a lawyers’ convention. Law enforcement stated that the PTI leader was detained under 3MPO and subsequently taken to the Mazang police station.
Just a week earlier, Marwat had claimed an attempted “abduction” by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police while on his way to Gulabad near Chakdara for a party convention scheduled in Bajaur.
Before this incident, a First Information Report (FIR) had been filed against him and others associated with the PTI for organizing a worker’s convention in Swabi.
In October, Marwat faced a case in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for allegedly inciting the public against state institutions through social media. The charges against him were filed under sections 120-B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) and 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
In the previous month, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted protective bail to Sher Afzal Marwat in two cases registered against him in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
