Sindh govt announces public holiday on Feb 5
The Sindh government has announced February 5th as a public holiday in honor of Kashmir Solidarity Day, in alignment with the federal government’s decision announced a few days earlier.
The federal government had officially designated February 5th as a national holiday, accompanied by a directive from the Cabinet Division for a one-minute silence at 10 a.m. on that day as a mark of respect.
Kashmir Solidarity Day holds immense significance in Pakistan, functioning as a platform to express unwavering support and solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The enduring Kashmir issue remains a contentious matter between Pakistan and India, with Pakistan consistently urging the international community to address the conflict through a plebiscite for a peaceful resolution.
Global attention focused on the conflict in 2019, when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi unilaterally revoked Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, granting special status to IIOJK. This unilateral action heightened tensions between the two nuclear neighbors.
In response, Pakistan has consistently maintained that the normalization of relations hinges on the restoration of Kashmir’s special status. As the nation prepares for Kashmir Day, sentiments of solidarity and advocacy for the rights of the Kashmiri people persist, underscoring the ongoing importance of addressing this longstanding conflict.
