Army top brass expresses satisfaction about smooth transition of power in Centre, provinces
RAWALPINDI: The senior leadership of the Pakistan Army has expressed satisfaction regarding the smooth transition of power in the central government and provinces, highlighting democratic consolidation as imperative for the nation’s progress.
This sentiment was shared during the 263rd Corps Commanders’ Conference held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir.
The conference, attended by corps commanders, principal staff officers, and all formation commanders, emphasized the army’s role in providing a secure environment for the February 8 general elections while refraining from interference in the electoral process.
Expressing disappointment, the forum condemned certain segments of the political sphere and media, particularly social media, for baselessly maligning the armed forces with unfounded allegations of interference. It criticized these elements for diverting attention from crucial issues such as governance, economic recovery, and public welfare, instead focusing on creating political instability.
The army reiterated the importance of following due legal processes with evidence rather than resorting to unconstitutional and baseless political rhetoric.
Furthermore, it expressed satisfaction with the democratic transition of power and hoped for political and economic stability post-elections, leading to peace and prosperity for Pakistanis.
The military leadership affirmed its commitment to addressing various challenges and threats while supporting the government in combating security threats and fostering socioeconomic growth.
This includes cooperation in combating illegal activities such as smuggling, hoarding, and electricity theft, as well as ensuring the respectful and safe repatriation of illegal foreigners.
Regarding the May 9 events, the army pledged to bring those responsible to justice and condemned efforts to distort facts and spread disinformation for political gain. The participants expressed concern over organized misinformation and fake news aimed at dividing society and called upon the people of Pakistan to remain united and optimistic about the country’s progress.
COAS Asim Munir emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism and operational readiness among field commanders, urging them to excel in both operations and training to ensure enduring stability, prosperity, and security for the nation.
