Quetta: Due to heavy rains causing widespread damage in Balochistan, the provincial government has announced a week-long closure of schools and other educational institutions.
Areas like Gwadar, Chaman, and others have been particularly affected, prompting this decision. The interim government released a notification citing the inclement weather conditions as the reason for the closure.
The heavy rainfall, especially in Gwadar, Kech, and neighboring districts, disrupted daily life and traffic along the Coastal Highway.
The Meteorological Office warned of a westerly wave affecting southwestern regions and declared a state of emergency in the affected areas. Paramilitary forces have been called in to aid in rescue and relief operations.
Gwadar and its surrounding areas experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall, with 160mm recorded in a single day.
This led to flooding in residential and commercial areas, making roads impassable. The closure of educational institutions aims to ensure the safety of students and staff in light of these challenging weather conditions.
