PPP rejects allegations of candidates’ abduction in NA-207
KARACHI: Provincial minister Saeed Ghani has dismissed allegations of candidates’ abduction leveled against the PPP in NA-207.
Talking to the media, the People’s Party leader accused the PTI of attempting to discredit Aseefa Bhutto’s victory in NA-207.
Ghani emphasized that historically, the Nawabshah NA seat has always been won by the People’s Party.
He pointed out that the PTI candidate did not even contest the rejection of his nomination papers.
He urged Aseefa Bhutto’s political opponents to acknowledge the election result, noting their lack of political competence.
Aseefa Bhutto, daughter of PPP co-Chairman and former President Asif Ali Zardari, secured her position as a member of the National Assembly (MNA) without opposition, as three rival candidates withdrew their nomination papers.
Aseefa Bhutto won the National Assembly seat in Shaheed Benazirabad, NA-207, which became vacant when her father assumed the presidency of Pakistan. The Returning Officer confirmed that initially, 11 candidates submitted their nomination papers for the by-election.
However, only four, including Aseefa, were approved after scrutiny. The Election Commission of Pakistan released a brief statement announcing Aseefa Bhutto’s uncontested election as MNA after the withdrawal of nomination papers by the remaining three candidates.
