RIYADH – Muslims in Saudi Arabia and throughout the world are honoring the holy month of Ramadan, and the faithful are preparing for spiritual practice for the final Ashra of the Islamic month, known as Itikaf, in which they seclude themselves in a mosque for worship and devotion.

Itikaf at Islam’s holiest place, the Grand Mosque, is crucial and every Muslim’s aspiration. Muslims in Mecca travel to the Grand Mosque with their bags for Itikaf and worship there during the month of Ashra.

Registration for Itikaf at the Grand Mosque will begin next week, Saudi authorities said recently.

The General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques announced that registration would begin on the 7th of Ramadan and will continue until all spaces are filled.

Those who agree to obey the laws and regulations of the Grand Mosque will practice itikaf. Authorities stated that applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Interested individuals can register through the Presidency’s portal dedicated to two holy mosques, which will remain open for several days.

Ramadan is the biggest season for pilgrimage to the Grand Mosque, with tens of thousands of worshippers flocking to the Kingdom to receive the most benefits.

Saudi officials also implemented a number of precautions to guarantee that worshippers had a smooth and comfortable experience throughout this busy week.
