ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court granted permission for the founder of PTI Imran Khan to participate in court proceedings regarding the NAB amendments case via video link.

This decision follows the court’s ruling on September 15, 2023, which invalidated changes made to National Accountability Bureau laws.

The five-member bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, heard arguments from both the government and NAB.

Justice Minallah emphasized the importance of allowing respondents like Imran Khan to attend court sessions, emphasizing fundamental rights. Chief Justice Isa highlighted the logistical arrangements made for Khan’s video appearance, stressing the significance of upholding law and justice.

In response, the federal government submitted a review plea under SC Practice and Procedure Law, naming various respondents including Khan. They argued against the court’s decision, asserting the legislative authority of Parliament and denying any infringement of basic rights.

In a majority decision of 2-1, the court upheld Imran Khan’s petition, challenging the amendments made to accountability laws during the previous government’s tenure.

Additionally, the court reinstated corruption cases against public officials that had been closed due to changes in NAB laws.
