Punjab govt approves glass train service from Rawalpindi to Murree
LAHORE: The Punjab government has sanctioned a new tourism initiative, the glass train service, which will connect Rawalpindi and Murree.
The decision was made during a comprehensive five-hour session presided over by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif. Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb provided an extensive overview of the Murree Development Project.
The session concluded with several key resolutions. The government will engage an international consultant to guide the development of the Rawalpindi-Murree glass train.
Additionally, a policy to reinstate the historical names of cities, areas, and landmarks, including those in Murree, was adopted.
The meeting also addressed urban planning and aesthetics. It was resolved that high-rise hotels disrupting the natural vista along Mall Road would be relocated. The famous hotel at GPO Chowk is to be moved to a new site, and a standardized facade and color scheme for the heritage buildings will be introduced.
Furthermore, the provincial government will now oversee the approval process for any amendments to building regulations in Murree, ensuring a cohesive approach to the town’s development and preservation.
