Public Holiday announced for 9th and 10th Muharram
PESHAWAR: A public holiday has been declared to celebrate the start of the new Islamic year in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan.
The provincial government has released a notification confirming that a public holiday will be observed on the first day of Muharram.
This holiday depends on the sighting of the Muharram moon. All government offices, schools, and businesses across the province will be closed on this day.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir, will convene on July 6 to determine the moon sighting.
If the moon is sighted on July 6, the holiday will be on July 7 (Sunday). If the moon is not sighted, the holiday will be on July 8 (Monday).
This arrangement ensures that the Islamic New Year is marked properly, respecting religious traditions.
