The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has shared a new update regarding green meters, marking a significant shift in the city’s renewable energy landscape.

According to the latest update, LESCO will allow the temporary installation of bi-directional green meters for the next three months (until mid-October). Interested individuals will receive No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for these meters, permitting their use in solar setups.

This decision follows LESCO’s earlier move to switch to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) instead of green meters. The transition to AMI meters reportedly led to massive cost increases, raising concerns among consumers and industry stakeholders.

Amid these concerns, the availability of AMI meters has added to the difficulties faced by solar energy consumers. The temporary reintroduction of green meters is expected to alleviate these challenges, providing a more cost-effective and accessible option for solar system users.

LESCO previously dismissed reports of a ban on Green Electricity Meters. Instead, they announced that NOCs for AMI meters would be issued to help reduce over-billing and power theft.

LESCO also explained that the recent power outage was due to repair work on the I-Con Valley feeder, with advance notice provided through newspapers.
