KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led Sindh government called for the immediate resignation of Governor Kamran Tessori on Monday.

At a press conference, Sindh Minister for Excise and Transport Sharjeel Memon criticized the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) for allegedly fostering “hatred and violence” in the province.

Memon asserted that the MQM-P has become irrelevant locally, labeling their politics of hatred and accusations as outdated. He mentioned, “They are no longer visible at the Union Council level.”

The PPP also criticized MQM-P Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui for his comments against former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto concerning the quota system.

Defending Bhutto, the PPP leader highlighted that Bhutto made Pakistan a nuclear power. He accused the MQM-P of filling local government positions with their workers and called their demands to end the quota system inappropriate.

Memon blamed the MQM-P for many of Sindh’s problems, alleging that the party had blocked new job openings through court orders to prevent employment. “They have always tried to stop people from getting jobs,” he claimed.

The provincial minister further condemned the MQM-P leadership for abandoning party founder Altaf Hussain during difficult times. “Khalid Maqbool and the rest of the leadership are not ready to accept their leader,” he said.

Recalling past events, he accused the MQM of engaging in various criminal activities, including killing innocent people during strikes.

Memon also accused the MQM of being controlled by foreign powers, suggesting they were taking orders from “masters in London.”

He demanded Governor Tessori’s resignation, accusing him of failing to address the issues caused by the MQM-P. “It is inappropriate to make baseless accusations against our martyred leaders. Governor Sindh should resign immediately,” he insisted.
