Dengue cases expected to drop by next month: PMD

As dengue continues to spread across the country, with hundreds of new cases reported daily, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that the outbreak will start to ease next month.

“Dengue is likely to subside in November, but the next two weeks are still critical,” the Met Office said in a statement.

The PMD explained that based on current weather conditions, upcoming seasonal changes, and patterns in atmospheric factors, a decline in dengue cases is expected next month. However, the next two weeks remain crucial since current conditions still favor the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

The Met Office urged all relevant authorities to take preventive steps to manage the dengue situation and advised national health agencies and dengue control centers to stay updated through the PMD website.

Hospitals across the country have seen a surge in patients experiencing symptoms like fever, body aches, and chills due to an increase in vector-borne illnesses, including dengue, malaria, and chikungunya.

The situation has been particularly severe in Sindh and Punjab, where thousands of dengue cases have been reported this year. According to the Sindh Health Department, nearly 1,600 cases have been documented in the province, while Punjab has recorded at least 4,394 cases.

Doctors recommend eliminating stagnant water in residential areas, covering water containers tightly, and using mosquito repellents, bed nets, and long-sleeved clothing to reduce the risk of infection.
