ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved a reduction of Rs 0.86 per unit in the electricity tariff on Thursday, which will be reflected in consumers’ bills for October.

According to the issued notification, the reduction is based on the fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for August.

Consumers who have not yet paid their October bills will see the adjustment immediately, while those who have already paid will receive the relief in their November bills.

However, this reduction does not apply to lifeline users, prepaid consumers, electric vehicle charging stations, or K-Electric customers.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had initially proposed a reduction of Rs 0.57 per unit, along with a 16-paisa decrease specifically for electricity rates in Karachi.

K-Electric has submitted its monthly adjustment application for September, with a NEPRA hearing scheduled for October 31. The anticipated reduction is expected to benefit 24.7 million K-Electric customers.

Meanwhile, decisions on K-Electric’s adjustments for August and July are still pending. According to sources, K-Electric has requested an increase of Rs 0.51 per unit for August and Rs 3.09 per unit for July.
