PM Shehbaz convenes Apex Committee meeting to review law and order situation

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has convened a meeting of the Apex Committee under the National Action Plan (NAP) on Monday, sources said.

The meeting will be attended by key civil and military leaders, including the Defence and Interior Ministers, other cabinet members, provincial chief ministers, the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, and services chiefs.

The committee will review the country’s overall law and order situation, focusing on the security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where terrorism remains a significant threat. Updates were provided on the effectiveness of intelligence-based operations against terrorist groups.

Discussions also covered broader national security concerns, with the committee expected to make critical decisions aimed at eradicating terrorism.

In its previous session, the Apex Committee endorsed a reinvigorated counter-terrorism initiative by launching Operation Azm-e-Istehkam with the consensus of all stakeholders, including provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office, Azm-e-Istehkam integrates various efforts to combat extremism and terrorism comprehensively and decisively. The forum reaffirmed that the fight against terrorism is Pakistan’s war, crucial for the nation’s survival and progress. It also resolved to uphold the state’s authority without exception and ensure no group challenges its writ.
