Pakistan’s first anti-smog tower has been installed in Lahore, as announced by the Environmental Protection Department.

The department collaborated with a private Islamabad-based company to set up the tower, which can purify 50,000 cubic meters of air per hour. Officials stated that additional towers would be installed across the city if the current unit performs effectively.

Located at Mehmood Booti, the tower is capable of cleaning 1.2 million cubic meters of air daily using electrostatic charges to capture pollutants. The unit was locally manufactured during the project.

Imran Hamid Sheikh, Director General of Environment, highlighted that industries and waste dumping sites contribute significantly to chemical pollution, necessitating the tower’s installation. He also mentioned that the Punjab government bore no costs for the trial phase, which will last 15 days.
