Cold and dry weather persist across Pakistan
Several parts of Balochistan were transformed into a winter wonderland on Sunday as snowfall and rain blanketed the province, creating stunning scenic views but also posing challenges for residents and authorities.
Areas like Ziarat, Kan Mehtarzai, Kozhak, Khanozai, Lakk Pass, Muslim Bagh, and Mastung experienced snowfall, with nearby mountains covered in fresh white peaks. Continuous light rain in Washuk and Besima added to the chill, while coastal regions such as Jiwani, Pishukan, and Surbandar enjoyed light rain that intensified the cool breeze along the coast.
Heavy snowfall at Kozhak Top caused road blockages, but clearance operations ensured traffic on the Quetta-Chaman highway remained unaffected, thanks to efforts by the district administration, NHA, and PDMA.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz from Karachi’s PMD confirmed that the cold wave entering Pakistan through Balochistan on January 18 would not bring rain to Karachi. However, colder winds from the system are expected to impact Karachi around January 24, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures.
While the snowfall and rain are welcomed for their beauty, they continue to present logistical challenges for those in the affected areas.
