ECC approves gas price increase for industries
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, has approved an increase in gas prices for industries while rejecting a proposal to raise prices for domestic consumers.
In a meeting held in Islamabad, the ECC gave the green light to raise the gas tariff for captive power plants by Rs. 500 per MMBTU. The new tariff has been set at Rs. 3,500 per MMBTU, up from the previous Rs. 3,000 per MMBTU.
Meanwhile, the committee firmly dismissed any increase in gas prices for household consumers, prioritizing relief for the general public amid rising costs.
The ECC also directed immediate measures to enforce the grid transition levy on captive power plants, signaling its commitment to enhancing efficiency in the energy sector.
This decision comes as part of broader discussions on energy reforms and the need to balance industrial demands with consumer protection.
