NEPRA has announced a reduction of Rs0.492 per unit in electricity prices for Karachi consumers as part of the October 2024 Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA).

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved K-Electric’s petition for a provisional monthly FCA for October 2024, offering relief of PKR 0.492 per kWh to be reflected in January 2025 bills.

According to NEPRA’s notification, the adjustment will apply to all consumer categories except lifeline consumers, prepaid metering users, agricultural consumers, and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS).

Additionally, K-Electric has submitted another provisional FCA request for November 2024, proposing a relief of PKR 4.98 per kWh for customers.

A public hearing on the November FCA is scheduled for January 15, 2025, after which NEPRA will finalize the amount and the period for its implementation, according to a statement by K-Electric.

In the case of November FCA, the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guaranteed (CPPA-G) has recommended a negative adjustment of 0.63 paisa per unit in XWDiscos’ tariffs.

K-Electric highlighted that this marks the third consecutive FCA benefiting its customers, with previous adjustments being 0.16 paisa for September and 0.27 paisa for October.

“All FCAs are calculated following regulatory guidelines and are included in customer bills after NEPRA’s review and approval,” K-Electric clarified in its statement.
