PESHAWAR: The Additional Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a notification enforcing Section 144 in Kurram district for two months to maintain peace and order amid concerns over potential terrorist activities targeting the region’s stability.

The directive includes a strict ban on public gatherings and the display of weapons along the district’s main highway. Authorities have vowed to crack down on individuals attempting to disrupt peace and are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further escalations.

This development comes after a recent firing incident left Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud injured. Unidentified militants attacked the DC’s vehicle in the Bagan area of Lower Kurram, injuring him. He was promptly transported to Lower Alizai Hospital, where his condition is stable but remains under observation.

Following the attack, grade 18 officer Ashfaq Khan has been appointed as the acting Deputy Commissioner to ensure uninterrupted administrative operations. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The injured DC was instrumental in brokering a peace agreement between warring tribes in the region, but violence erupted once again despite the recent truce. Meanwhile, the first supply convoy carrying food and essentials for Kurram is being transported under heavy security to safeguard its journey and support the affected population.
