ISLAMABAD: Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif expressed his profound sorrow on Wednesday following the passing of Prince Karim Aga Khan. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Aga Khan’s family and the Ismaili Muslim community.

“I am saddened to hear about the passing of Prince Karim Aga Khan and extend my condolences to his family and the greater Ismaili Muslim community,” stated Khawaja Asif.

The minister acknowledged Prince Karim’s remarkable leadership, emphasizing how his contributions not only benefited Ismaili Muslims but also made a significant impact on humanity. He particularly noted that Pakistan’s heritage and education sectors owe much to Prince Karim’s advocacy.

Khawaja Asif also highlighted the enduring legacy of Prince Karim’s family, recalling the pivotal role played by his grandfather, Sir Sultan Mohammad Shah Aga Khan, in the founding of the All-India Muslim League and the creation of Pakistan.

The Defence Minister fondly remembered his personal connection with Prince Karim, recalling, “I was fortunate to witness his first official visit to Pakistan in 1957 as a young boy in Sialkot. Then, two years ago, during another visit, I had the privilege and honor of serving as the minister-in-waiting for him.”
