Peoples Bus Service extends operation timings during Ramadan in Karachi
The Sindh Transport Department has announced extended operational hours for the Peoples Bus Service in Karachi during Ramadan 2025.
Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon stated that starting from the 15th of Ramadan, the bus service will run from 7 AM to 1 AM. The extended schedule will apply to Routes R1, R2, R3, R4, R9, R10, and EV1.
Memon emphasized that the decision was made to accommodate commuters during Ramadan, acknowledging Karachi residents’ dependence on public transport.
“We are committed to ensuring safe travel for people after their shopping and other activities during Ramadan nights,” he assured.
Additionally, starting February 1, 2025, the Sindh Government and Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) have introduced a fare hike for the Peoples Bus Service.
Under the new fare structure, passengers traveling up to 15 kilometers will be charged Rs. 80 per ride, while those covering distances beyond 15 kilometers will pay Rs. 120.
The Peoples Bus Service, an essential transit system in Karachi, operates red, white (electric), and pink (ladies-only) buses on eight routes, connecting major residential areas with business and industrial hubs.
The air-conditioned red buses can accommodate around 40 seated passengers, with additional space for 40 standing commuters and designated sections for women. The fare adjustment is aimed at maintaining the service’s sustainability while continuing to provide reliable public transportation in the city.
