Islamabad: PM Shehbaz Sharif has vowed further relief in electricity prices through power sector reforms.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired an important review meeting on the Power Division’s affairs, emphasizing that power sector reforms will provide further relief in electricity prices.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister directed authorities to address public concerns regarding the solarization policy with facts and figures. He reaffirmed that promoting renewable energy remains a government priority, and there has been no change in the government’s solar energy policies and priorities.

Shehbaz Sharif instructed the relevant authorities to expedite the liquidation of generation companies (Gencos) and ensure all legal and administrative matters are resolved promptly.

Additionally, the Prime Minister ordered a faster privatization process for electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) and announced that a comprehensive and effective strategy is being developed to reduce electricity prices, with a relief package to be announced soon.

He further stated that power sector reforms will provide additional relief in electricity prices for the public.

To develop a comprehensive strategy for the energy sector, the Prime Minister directed better coordination between the Power Division, Water Resources Division, and Petroleum Division.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Owais Ahmad Leghari, Prime Minister’s Advisor Dr. Tauqir Shah, and other senior government officials.

Additionally, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahsan Iqbal and Prime Minister’s Advisor Muhammad Ali joined the meeting via video link.
