DG ISPR speaking to BBC Urdu
Rawalpindi: Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, said that the Pakistan Army has no interest in holding talks with political parties, stressing that the military should not be dragged into politics.
In an interview with BBC Urdu, he stated that the army is not engaged in any negotiations or behind-the-scenes contacts with political parties or leadership.
DG ISPR said, they have always been very clear on this matter. It is the responsibility of politicians to communicate each other, and any attempts to involve the army in politics are unacceptable. The military operates solely under the framework of the Pakistani state, with the aim of protecting the public and safeguarding territorial integrity.
The military spokesperson further stated that the army has no interest in engaging with political parties, nor does it have any intention to do so. “We only communicate with the government and the state according to the constitution of Pakistan, and whichever government is in power is the current state.”
He added that questions related to political instability should be directed to political entities.
DG ISPR urged that public to keep their politics within their own circles and keep the military away from it. He accused some political groups are spreading rumors and false stories against the military, with aim to damage its reputation. “There was even a rumor suggesting that the military does not perform its duties and is involved in politics, which is entirely false.”
He clarified that the military is engaged in its professional duties and stands with the nation at all times. “Our commitment is to regional sovereignty, independence, and the protection of the people.” He emphasized that we should avoid focusing on political assumptions without evidence.
He also highlighted that the military has continued to perform its responsibilities across different governments and always steps forward whenever the country needs it, whether it involves polio teams or other welfare activities.
In conclusion, he stated that the military will continue to serve the country on the instructions of the government. “We are always ready for the nation, and our priorities are solely to serve the country and the people.”
