Sugar Prices Hits Record High of Rs. 200 Per Kg in Pakistan
Sugar prices are rapidly increasing across various cities in the country, making life even more difficult for consumers.
Reports indicate that Islamabad has seen the highest sugar prices, with rates reaching nearly Rs. 195 per kilogram. In Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Peshawar, sugar is being sold at Rs. 190 per kilogram, while in Quetta it’s Rs. 186 and in Khuzdar Rs. 185.
Similarly, in Sialkot, sugar is priced at Rs. 185 per kilogram, and in Hyderabad, Bahawalpur, Multan, and Bannu, it is being sold at Rs. 180. In Sukkur and Larkana, prices have reached Rs. 175 per kilogram.
According to government data, Pakistan has exported around 750,000 metric tons of sugar by June 2025, earning approximately Rs. 112 billion.
However, due to this export without proper planning, sugar mill owners have made billions, while the local market is facing a severe shortage.
To address the crisis, the government has now issued orders to import sugar, which will put pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
