Heavy rain and thunderstorms, have hit Hyderabad city and nearby areas, turning the weather pleasant but severely disrupting daily life.
The city recorded 56 mm of rain, with the Meteorological Department confirming that Hyderabad City received up to 94 mm of rain in just two hours — though this was not classified as a cloudburst. More rain is expected in the coming hours.
Due to the heavy rain, streets and underpasses, including major roads like Thandi Sarak, Station Road, and Chandni Road, were submerged. The Hussainabad and Latifabad underpasses also filled with water, bringing traffic to a standstill.
In Hyderabad Division, strong winds and rain toppled three 132kV towers of the National Grid Company between Bhansaeedabad and Sehwan, suspending power supply to several grid stations in Jamshoro, including Sehwan, Shalmani, Palco, and Khanot.
Coastal and urban areas in Badin have experienced heavy rain with strong winds. Several makeshift houses lost their roofs, and electricity supply was suspended due to fallen power poles. Rain also began in Kotri, Jamshoro, Manjhand, and surrounding areas, making the weather pleasant but disrupting communication networks. A severe dust storm turned the sky dark across Matiari city, followed by strong winds and heavy rain that brought relief from intense heat and humidity. Power supply was suspended as a precaution. Areas including Hala, Saeedabad, and Odero Lal are also experiencing heavy rain and strong winds, causing damage to mud houses and crops, leaving locals facing significant difficulties.
Sujawal and nearby areas is also experiencing rain, breaking the spell of heat and humidity. Cool breezes have turned the weather pleasant, and residents, long troubled by the hot weather, welcomed the downpour.
Thatta city and surrounding areas remain overcast, with light rain continuing in several places, bringing relief from the heat and making the weather more pleasant.
