The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain with thunderstorms across multiple regions of the country between August 29 and September 2, warning of potential flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides.
Intermittent rain with thunder is expected in Islamabad from August 29 to September 2. Northern and northeastern Punjab districts — including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin — may experience heavy downpours on August 30 and 31, raising the risk of flooding.
Rain is likely from August 29 to 31 in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan. Low-lying areas are at risk of inundation and possible flash floods.
Heavy rains are expected from August 29 to 31, with a high risk of landslides in Malakand and Hazara divisions. Affected districts include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, D.I. Khan, Tank, Kohat, and Bannu.
Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Haveli, Kotli, Mirpur, and Bhimber may see heavy rain between August 29 and September 2, with a risk of landslides. In Gilgit-Baltistan — including Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, and Ghanche — heavy rain from August 29 to 31 may trigger landslides and glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF).
Coastal districts including Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, and Tharparkar are expected to receive rain between August 30 and September 2, with the possibility of urban flooding in Karachi. Interior Sindh districts such as Hyderabad, Dadu, Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Kashmore may experience heavy rainfall from August 30 to September 1.
Rain is forecast from August 29 to September 1 in Gwadar, Kech, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Lasbela, and Kalat, posing flood risks to low-lying areas.
The PMD warns of intensified flooding in areas along the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers due to additional rainfall. Mountainous areas face an increased threat of landslides.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is closely monitoring rescue and relief operations, with all relevant agencies instructed to ensure preparedness. Residents are urged to stay cautious, follow safety advisories, and avoid unnecessary travel to northern regions during this period.
In case of emergencies, citizens are advised to immediately contact local administration and rescue officials. Tourists are strongly cautioned against traveling to northern areas due to the risk of landslides and road blockages.
