Karachi once again at risk, heavy rain is expected between August 24 and 28
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned that heavy rain is expected in Karachi and Hyderabad between August 24 and 28. Authorities fear the downpour could cause flooding in low-lying areas, power cuts, and disruption of daily life.
According to the NDMA, Hyderabad may receive rain with thunder and lightning, while Karachi is likely to see heavy showers starting Thursday night.
Officials have urged people to be careful during the spell. Citizens are advised to avoid flooded roads, keep away from electric poles, and use electrical appliances safely. They also suggested clearing drains to prevent waterlogging. Families living in vulnerable neighborhoods have been encouraged to keep emergency kits ready with food, water, flashlights, and first aid.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the current rain system that soaked Karachi in recent days would weaken today, bringing only light showers in the morning.
However, a new monsoon system is expected to enter Sindh on August 27 and may bring more rain to Karachi and nearby areas until August 30.
