PDMA confirms 406 deaths, 245 injuries in KP rains and flash floods
PESHAWAR: At least 406 people have lost their lives and 245 others have been injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to heavy rains and flash floods, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Tuesday.
According to the latest PDMA update, the death toll includes 167 women and 108 children. Among the injured are 121 men, 92 women, and 32 children.
District Buner has been the worst hit, where 237 people died and 128 were injured. Other affected districts include Swabi with 42 deaths, Shangla with 36, Mansehra with 25, Bajaur with 22, and Swat with 20 fatalities.
The floods have also caused large-scale property damage. A total of 2,810 houses have been affected, 2,136 partially damaged, and 674 destroyed. Buner alone recorded the highest property loss with 1,469 houses damaged.
Educational institutions have also suffered, with 324 schools affected. Of these, 18 were destroyed and 306 partially damaged.
In addition, PDMA reported that 5,916 livestock perished in the floods and rains, further worsening the losses faced by families in the affected areas.
