PM Shehbaz claims Dams will be built with Provinces’ consultation
Lahore: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Friday that the government is preparing a comprehensive strategy to build new dams and improve water management in all four provinces, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
He said that all water reservoir projects will be planned in consultation with the provinces, ensuring full coordination at every step. “Climate change is real, and only by preparing in advance can we reduce the damage caused by natural disasters,” the Prime Minister stressed.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the need for joint efforts between the provinces, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the federal government, calling climate change a national challenge that requires collective action.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, work has already started on a policy to deal with climate change and monsoon challenges. This draft policy will soon be shared with the provinces to develop a united plan. Once the emergency settles, the Prime Minister will call a high-level meeting with all four Chief Ministers, along with the Prime Minister of AJK and the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz praised the LESCO employees for donating one day’s salary, amounting to Rs20 million, for flood relief. He called it an exemplary act of solidarity and assured that the government is using all resources to support the flood-affected people across the country.
