ISLAMABAD: The Power Division has issued an emergency alert to all electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) across Pakistan as floods continue to threaten several regions.

The directive asks DISCOs to make sure the power supply remains uninterrupted during heavy rains and rising water levels. Companies have been told to protect substations, feeders, and control rooms from possible damage.

The Power Division said operational teams must stay on high alert and be ready to respond quickly to any emergency. A special flood monitoring cell has also been set up, and all companies are required to share daily updates.

DISCOs have also been advised to work closely with local disaster management authorities so that risks can be reduced and help can reach people without delay.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured that all flood-related problems will be handled through joint national efforts. Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad, he praised the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for issuing timely alerts, which helped save lives and property.

He added that NDMA has already sent tents to Punjab’s flood-hit areas and stressed that other relief supplies must continue without interruption. The prime minister also ordered authorities to take urgent steps to prepare for possible urban flooding in Gujrat, Sialkot, and Lahore.
