Two PIA employees caught in FIA raid over Gold smuggling attempt
PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) foiled a gold smuggling attempt involving Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) employees at Bacha Khan International Airport on Sunday, news reported.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the operation was carried out jointly with the Airport Security Force (ASF). Two PIA staff members, identified as Nasir Khan and Shahidullah, were caught with 7,740 grams of gold hidden inside luggage for illegal export. Both suspects were immediately taken into custody.
The FIA said the arrested employees, who were posted at Peshawar Airport, are also suspected of helping other smuggling operations in the past. They have been sent on a two-day physical remand for further questioning, and more arrests are expected as the investigation moves forward.
Officials stressed that this raid is part of the FIA’s wider crackdown on international smuggling networks operating through Pakistan’s airports.
In another recent operation, the FIA Balochistan Zone stopped an illegal border crossing at the Pakistan-Iran border. The agency arrested a human trafficking agent, Nadir, along with his assistant, Haider. Several Bangladeshi nationals, who had entered Pakistan unlawfully and were trying to cross into Iran, were also detained.
The FIA said such operations are part of its ongoing efforts to fight smuggling and human trafficking across the country.
