ISLAMABAD: Strong tremors jolted Islamabad and several other parts of the country on Thursday, sending waves of panic among residents. The quake forced people to rush out of their homes and offices while reciting prayers.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the earthquake was recorded at a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale. Its depth was reported at 20 kilometers, with the epicenter located in the mountainous region of Afghanistan.

The tremors were felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other surrounding areas, where frightened citizens gathered in open spaces, worried about aftershocks. Many reported that household items and furniture rattled during the quake.

While no immediate loss of life or property has been reported, rescue and emergency services have been placed on alert. Authorities have urged people to remain calm but vigilant.

Pakistan lies in an active seismic zone, and mild to moderate earthquakes are frequent, especially in the northern and western regions bordering Afghanistan and Iran.
