Govt keeps petrol price unchanged, reduces diesel by Rs3 per litre
The federal government has decided to keep the petrol price unchanged, while slashing high-speed diesel by Rs3 per litre for the next fortnight
According to the official notification, the price of Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO) has been reduced by Rs1.46 per litre, while the price of Light Diesel Oil (LDO) has been reduced by Rs2.4 per litre. The new prices are set at Rs269.99 per litre for high-speed diesel, Rs176.81 per litre for kerosene, and Rs159.76 per litre for light diesel.
Petrol is widely used in small vehicles, rickshaws, and motorcycles, so any increase in its price hits middle- and lower-income households hardest as they rely on it for daily travel.
On the other hand, high-speed diesel is heavily used in the transport sector, powering trucks, buses, trains, and agricultural machinery like tractors and tube wells. Its price is considered inflationary because a rise in its cost leads to higher prices of vegetables and other essential goods.
