Karachi again face urban flooding in many areas, 200 Feeders power supply collapses
KARACHI: Heavy rains once again submerged large parts of Karachi, disrupting daily life with urban flooding and widespread power breakdowns.
Thado Dam in Gadap overflowed on Wednesday, sending water into nearby residential areas. The Malir River also swelled, forcing authorities to close the Korangi Causeway for all traffic.
The downpour, which began Tuesday evening and continued overnight, left several main roads and underpasses underwater. Streets in North Karachi’s Do Minute Chowrangi, Sakhi Hassan, Nagan Chowrangi, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, and Drigh Road were flooded, while water also entered the Green Line bus track.
Key roads, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Korangi Road, Gulshan, NIPA, Malir, and Shah Faisal Colony, turned into water channels. Low-lying areas went underwater, and rainwater seeped into many houses.
The heavy rain badly damaged the power supply system. Over 200 feeders tripped, leaving large parts of the city without electricity for several hours.
