Karachi court suspends Bhains Colony Railway bridge construction
Karachi: A local court in Malir has ordered a halt to the construction of the Bhains Colony railway bridge, just days after the project was launched.
According to the News, residents of the area went to court, saying the construction work had blocked the roads leading to their homes. After hearing initial arguments from both sides, a senior civil judge in Malir suspended the construction and directed that work must stay stopped until alternative routes are provided for the locals.
The bridge project was inaugurated only three days ago by Murtaza Wahab, the Mayor of Karachi. On Wednesday, he launched the Rs1.6 billion flyover project on Khalid bin Waleed Road, which is designed to connect the National Highway with the Mehran Highway.
Speaking at the launch, Wahab said the four-lane flyover would be completed in 12 months and would help reduce traffic jams and accidents near the railway crossing close to the Cattle Colony. He added that the Pakistan People’s Party is committed to improving Karachi’s infrastructure and making the city’s roads safer and more convenient for citizens.
