LONDON: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on what he called the “great victory of May 10,” describing it as a historic moment that taught the enemy a lesson they will never forget.

Speaking at the Overseas Convention in London, the Prime Minister recalled that when Pakistan was accused of involvement in the Pulwama incident, he had clearly stated at Kakul that Pakistan had nothing to do with it. He even offered to set up an international investigation, but the neighboring country never responded.

Sharif said that on May 6, the enemy attacked Pakistan, targeting civilians, mosques, and property, which left many innocent people martyred. Pakistan, he said, had no choice but to respond in self-defense.

“In one swift move, Pakistan shot down six enemy aircraft,” he noted, adding that the other side quickly understood that any further escalation would have serious consequences.

The Prime Minister said Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir informed him of India’s renewed aggression and sought permission to retaliate. “I gave the go-ahead, and our armed forces gave them a lifelong lesson,” he said.

Sharif explained that Pakistan’s success came from three key factors: the bravery and faith of the armed forces, the unity of the nation, and the strong leadership of the military. He praised the “falcons” of the air force for their outstanding performance and noted that people across the country, from Karachi to Peshawar, stood united in prayers and resolve.

The Prime Minister also paid tribute to overseas Pakistanis, calling them the nation’s true strength. “Even if weighed against gold and jewels, their worth cannot be matched,” he said, highlighting that they had sent $38.5 billion in remittances to support Pakistan’s economy.
