Pakistan Railways introduces new facilities for women and disabled persons
Pakistan Railways has announced new measures to improve passenger facilities and ensure safety, with a special focus on women and differently-abled persons. The decision came during a meeting at the Ministry of Railways, chaired by Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi.
Minister Abbasi stated that Pakistan Railways will implement gender-responsive protocols at stations and on trains to create a safe, dignified, and peaceful travel environment for women. He explained that the plan includes putting up awareness posters at stations and inside trains, broadcasting safety announcements, and training railway staff through gender sensitization and specialized workshops. The department will also launch a nationwide awareness campaign to promote women’s safety while traveling.
The minister added that all upcoming refurbished trains will have designated seating for passengers with special needs. Major stations will also be equipped with wheelchairs to help passengers with disabilities travel more easily and with dignity.
“Pakistan Railways values every passenger,” Abbasi said. “These steps—especially for women and persons with special abilities—show our commitment to building a modern, inclusive, and passenger-friendly railway system.”
